New Look

Wow, it has been awhile since I posted to the blog. Things have been so busy lately that I have not had a chance to keep it up.

The wedding season has started and I am having a blast sharing special days with special people! It is absolutely one of my favorite things in the world to do and definitely the reason I am here on this earth!

I am also excited to announce that my website is finally being revamped! The current look of my website dates back 2 years - I set up this look in early 2007. I am now working with a company to create a new logo design and a new website that will be more modern, user friendly, and MUCH cooler! I am SOOO excited!! Check back in a couple months for that!

Ah...summer is here....yay!! :)

Cathy's Junior Year Session

Wow it has been a really long time since I updated my blog! Things have been so crazy lately! But that is a good thing, right?? Here is one of my favorite sessions that I did recently with Cathy, whom some of you have met as she is my assistant! She graduates from high school next year so she is a junior right now. We had to capture her with her newly beautiful pink hair!! Poor Cathy, she was FREEZING when we did this session...but I hope she thinks it was worth it..she looks SPECTACULAR!!! :)

Baby Bultz

A friend of mine that I have known for about 7 years had her first baby boy last week and I had the opportunity to photograph little Brady with his extended family when he was 6 days old, but I had also photographed the baby shower a few weeks ago. Lisa is SUCH a beautiful person inside and out..I am so happy to know her and so thrilled for her and Josh and their new little one! Here are a few photos from that session as well as a couple of my favorites from the shower.

This first one had us cracking up because you know how funny dogs can be. Well, when I instructed everyone to look at little Brady, Micayla decided to turn and look, too! It cracked everyone up and I got this great shot!

I had the opportunity tonight to photograph baby Violet and her parents, as well as her grandparents who are visiting from California. She is a BEAUTIFUL 2.5 week old and she was very sweet during the entire session. We concentrated on her grandparents for this session, but Violet and her parents will be back next week for a session with just the three of them. Her parents and grandparents all have such great senses of humor, they were either laughing themselves or cracking me up the whole time!! Here are some of my favorite images from the session.

Tonight I had the change to photograph a tiny little baby boy who is just 16 days old. He was so little and beautiful, and he had so much hair! We didn't really get to finish the session because he was a bit fussy, so these folks will be back, but here are a few of my favorite images from that session.

Fall Fun

This weekend I had the opportunity to photograph a young couple with a beautiful 21 month old little boy who found me through an session I donated to raise money for Colorado Youth at Risk. The little guy was SO full of energy he barely sat down the whole time and definitely kept us on our toes trying to photograph him. It was a gorgeous day out and we photographed down at City Park. With the fall leaves, the images turned out just beautiful! Here are a few of my favorites.

This had me cracking up. I was calling his name to get him to look at me, and he decided he did not want to hear me anymore, so he plugged his ears!!

I loved the way these two looked at each other. You can just feel the love between them!

Sean's Senior Session

On Sunday I photographed Sean who is a senior at Monarch. I spoke at length to his mom to find out a bit more about him, and what an interesting guy! Mom and sister Kasey came along for the session, and Kasey was great as my assistant for the session! :) Thanks, Kasey! We got some great images from the day, and here are some of my favorites.

Beautiful Twins

Last week we photographed Riley and Carson whom I have photographed since they were just little ones still inside their mom's belly! These two are too cute and it was so much fun. At one point I had to warn them if I kept laughing I wouldn't be able to get any steady shots!! Mom Stacey is so beautiful she makes it so easy to get great photos of her. I can't wait until the next session when these two are running around and we get to capture them giggling and running away from us! Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

Wedding Ceremony Transcends Language Barrier

I had the opportunity this weekend to photography Hanh and Phuc's wedding. There was a buddhist ceremony up outside of Morrison, and then the reception was held at the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. The whole day was beautiful, and Hanh changed three different times and managed to look amazing each time! Here are some of my favorite images from the day.

I believe the emotion and sacredness of a wedding ceremony transcends language barriers, and when Hanh started tearing up here during the ceremony, though I could not understand a word that was being said, the moment had me crying, too.

This is a famous calligrapher, who happened to fly in the night before from Vietnam, and who presented Hanh and Phuc with a gift of his work on their wedding day. (I wish I knew what it said!)

This image looks to me like it could have come straight out of a classic film. Phuc looks so handsome in his suit!

Congratulations, Hanh and Phuc, on your wedding! It was an honor to be part of your wedding day, and I wish you many, many years of love and happiness in the future!

Max Power

I had the opportunity tonight to photograph Jason and Tara who are expecting their first child, dubbed Max Power for now, in October. They are waiting to find out whether the little one will be a boy or a girl which I think is so great considering these days everyone wants to KNOW!! It's definitely going to be a wonderful surprise! These two are so funny and have such great senses of humor. I thought they would be totally cracking themselves, and me, up the whole time, but we managed to get serious long enough to get some beautiful images!

Did I mention these two are HUGE 'Simpsons' fans?

A castle, a carriage...a perfect wedding day

Wow! July has gone by so fast I haven't had a chance to keep my blog updated! A couple of weeks ago I photographed Jill and Scott's wedding at Dunafon Castle up outside of Morrison. It was a breathtaking location - I don't even think these images do the place justice. You really have to see it to take in the true beauty of the location.

Can I just say Jill and Scott are so much fun and I REALLY enjoyed photographing their wedding? And their vows were so sweet...I almost had a hard time listening because it became a choice between between really listening to the vows which was bringing me to tears...or focusing on my photography!

Here are a few of my favorite images from the day:

This image chokes me up every time I look at it because Jill's mom was totally teary eyed here during the moments between Jill getting ready and the ceremony starting. She looked so proud and happy and you could just feel the emotion she was feeling - it was such a beautiful 'mom' moment I had to give her a hug, too!

While we took some photos of Scott, he pulled out this flask and told me that it was a present from his new brother-in-law. It says 'Brothers 2008'. How great is that?

During Jill and her dad's carriage ride up the ceremony, they took a ride around the lake and its almost as though the geese floated by on cue.

I wonder if they realized how amazingly beautiful this setting was for a romantic ceremony. I am still amazed every time I look at these images!

These are two of my absolute favorite images from the day, so I thought I would do something a bit more special. Jill was stunning on her wedding day - you almost couldn't take your eyes off her - and I think this image captures her beauty perfectly.

I absolutely love the intimacy of this image - it is almost as though I wasn't there...just as it should be.

Jill and Scott - thanks so much for allowing us to be a part of your special day! Your laughter and fun spirits are such a bright light and I wish you both so much happiness in your future!

Regis Alumni Wedding

This weekend I had the opportunity to shoot Suzanne and Jackson's wedding on the Regis University Campus and the Denver Botanic Gardens. I graduated from Regis, so it was great being back on campus! Both Suzanne and Jackson graduated from there - and Suzanne and I figured out we graduated the same year and 'walked' together! How cool is that?

Suzanne and Jackson are such a great couple and were so much fun to photograph, and the locations had just beautiful photo opportunities at every turn. What a difficult thing to do (and wonderful dilemma to have!) to narrow down images to post!!

The Regis University campus is just beautiful! (Why didn't I really notice that when I was attending??)

We were waiting for the cue for Suzanne's dad to walk her down the aisle, and I noticed this plaque on the wall. It is a quote by St. Ignatius which reads "Love consists in sharing what one has and what one is with those one loves. Love ought to show itself in deeds more than in words".

I love this set of images. This time it was the Mother-Son dance which brought me to tears. I especially love this first image of Jackson's mom. She looks beautiful! You can just feel the emotion between them!

And some fun stuff...

Suzanne and Jackson chose to see each other before the ceremony, so we had some time to take some images. The wind kicked up out of nowhere and blew Suzanne's veil off! Jackson went after it and I caught this cute image.

It must just be the time of year for ladybugs because we had a few get caught in Suzanne's veil. I think it was a good sign because according to folklore, Ladybugs bring good luck! :)

Jackson struck a fitting "Grease" pose for this shot. (I will go to bed tonight with "Go grease lighting...." playing in my head!!)

Grandparents

I love when I have the opportunity to photograph multiple generations, and today I had the opportunity to photograph the little one, her mom, and mom's parents. Here are some of the images we came up with:

These are the grandparent's hands. To me this symbolizes the love and support that will come from an additional generation. The baby may not understand that network of family that exists, but they are there to guide and love and support. Love that.

While we took a break to feed the baby, I photographed just the grandparents. I think they thought I was crazy when I told them I was photographing just their hands :), but my personal thought is that hands reveal so much depth and history about a person's life - one's hands have worked for so many years, been through so much of life..there are so many stories that these hands could tell. I love the casual grasp here, too. So comfortable from so many years. I love these details!

Cinderella Wedding

Yesterday was Shannon and Brendon's wedding, whose engagement - Loomis-Loucks Engagement - I photographed back in April. What a fun time! Here are some of my favorite images:

The first dance - I love the way she is holding him so tightly!

This was hilarious! Just after the bouquet toss and before the garter toss, the groomsmen took us all by surprise and serenaded Shannon with "You've lost that loving feeling". (How many of you remember that from the movie 'Top Gun'?)

Talk about stopping traffic! We ran out into the middle of the busy street, stopping traffic to take this fun shot! (Amidst the honking horns and cheering spectators!)

I love how they have their hands raised in celebration in this image!

LOVE the cowboy hat and boots!

This image is my favorite because all day I was thinking Shannon looked like a princess, and at the very end of the night, the reception hall had pretty much cleared out, and Brendon and Shannon snuck back in for a final dance to Michael Buble's "Everything" (which happens to be my little sister's First Dance song!), and while dancing, Shannon lost her shoe. So Brendon bent down to help her put her shoe back on, and the whole scene was very "Cinderella". TOO SWEET!!

The quote that came to mind for these two, because they are just too cute, comes from Winnie the Pooh, and has been one of my favorites quotes for years because of the steady, sweet, supportive love it represents:

Little King

Cute little guy

It is so amazing to me to watch babies grow. Doing a maternity session, then watching them as they grow and to see all the cute little things that babies do. And it's such an honor to be able to capture that growth for so many growing families. We did a 7 month session for Colson last week and he is just too cute. I loved that he is still learning to sit up...so every so often he would topple over. Too cute. He kept sticking his tongue out and we kept trying to get it back in! Nate & Amy thought maybe it was because it was a little windy, so he was just responding to that, but whatever it was it was really cute. Here are some images from that session.

The Kelly Clarkson Connection

I met Andrew and Bill in November when I was standing outside The Paramount Theater completely sad because I didn't have tickets to the Kelly Clarkson concert and there were no scalpers to be found. Up walk Andrew and Bill who just happened to have extra tickets they could sell. And not just any tickets...THIRD ROW CENTER!!! The concert ROCKED and afterwards I told them if they were interested I would do a session for them. It took us awhile to actually get our schedules together, but here are some of the photos with their BEAUTIFUL standard poodles Baldwyn and Bellamy.

Project Everlasting

I mentioned in my last posting how I love the older generation, and I came across this video today. Its from Project Everlasting and is part of a documentary on couples that had been together 40+ years. As this is the season of weddings, I had to post this. This made me both laugh & cry, and have hope for my own relationship when things get tough, as well as the relationships of those around me including the ones I am photographing. I think this goes not just for marriages, but can be applicable for just about any long term relationship be it friends, family, children.

I absolutely LOVE photographing young love and weddings...but I think I would truly, truly be honored to photograph a re-committment or renewal of vows for an older couple. A couple where the relationship has been through the ups and downs of life, been tried and found true. How amazing would that be?

Three Generations

I had a wonderful time this weekend photographing a wedding which included three generations on both sides of the family. I have such an affinity for the older generations, that I can't help when they are around paying special attention to them. (I know this goes back to my father having passed away a few years ago). We had both sets of parents as well as grandparents at this wedding and it was just beautiful to see all of them there to share in such a joyous occasion. The bride was absolutely stunning, and the groom and his groomsmen were very GQ in their tuxes. What a fun night!

Though the bride and groom hardly belong in the background, this was just too sweet with the parents and grandparents on the groom's side. After I finished taking this photo, grandfather whispered to me that kiss was 66 years in the making!! BEAUTIFUL! (Can I just say THIS is why I do what I do?? LOVE IT!)

This furry little guy was the ringbearer during the ceremony! And he did an EXCELLENT job! :)

I love this. As we were taking photos of the bride and groom, the groom's brother and mother were by themselves dancing in the background. Too sweet!

We got some hilariously cute images of the bride and groom, and I absolutely love this playful set.

I had a great time this weekend photographing Kelsey and Joseph's wedding at the Mt. Vernon Event Center in Golden. It was a gorgeous day, the details were beautiful, and Joseph & Kelsey were just the cutest couple. I cried 3 different times during this wedding - When the girls were all crying as Kelsey was getting ready, during the father daughter dance (the song was 'Butterfly Kisses'), and when Joseph surprised his bride and sang "Grow Old with You" by Adam Sandler from the movie the Wedding Singer. That is one of my all time favorite movies, so when Joe broke out in song, it had me laughing and crying at the same time!! What a blast!! I was hard at work but definitely felt like I had attended a celebration! I practically danced my way home in the car! What an honor to be part of such a special day!

We had a great time this weekend shooting Meg and Chris's wedding up at Lionscrest Manor in Lyons, Colorado. We had so much fun a few months ago doing their engagement session at Lakeside, and it was so great to watch them get married. I promised myself I wouldn't tear up, but when it came time for the first dance..well...I couldn't stop myself. It was so sweet. Here are some images from that beautiful day! Busy May

Well I have promised myself that I would post at least twice a month, and include images from my favorite couple of sessions from the past month. This month has just flown by so quickly I can't believe I last posted May 1st! I spent a bunch of this month on vacation, though, and you know vacation time *always* goes too fast!

One of my closest friends came up for my birthday earlier this month, and without the kids around we were able to take our time and take some photos of her!! Of course, these are some of my favorites from the past month!

Miss Broomfield

Yesterday we had a great time photographing Miss Broomfield 2008, Jamie Dukehart-Conti, who will be competing in the Miss Colorado pageant this June 22. Sweet Love

We did an engagement session this weekend for a young couple whose wedding I will be photographing in June. Brendan goes to The School of Mines, so we did this down in Golden. I have to admit, as I was editing these images they brought tears to my eyes (anyone that knows me knows that isn't TOO hard to do) because the photos are so sweet and the love between them is clearly visible. Such a sweet couple!

One of the Highlights of my life

The past few weeks have been so busy for me both professionally and personally. One of the high points of my life occurred on April 22nd when one of my closest friends gave birth to her first baby. She and I have a history going back to 1994 when we met in college, and since then it's been no looking back. We have been though everything together including moving out to Colorado, my dad passing away, marriage and now her first baby!! I was lucky enough to share this event with her in the delivery room. She actually had a c-section and it was just amazing to be able to experience this with her, and also to capture this event that she 'kinda' remembers, but can now experience again through my images. I know this is alot, but here are a bunch of those images, all taken within a few hours of birth from our own personal collection of images.

He's 16??

I had the funniest thing happen to me last weekend when Cathy (my new intern) and I were photographing a family. Joyce told me about the kids who would be in the photos, and told me their names - the 16 year old being Charles. When we showed up at the door, the guy that opened the door introduced himself as Charles. I thought to myself....there is no way he is 16...but I was not really sure of myself. For a few seconds I was thinking...really??...he's 16?...no way...then I was introduced to the 16 year old Charles and.....lightbulb...I made the connection. Father and Son. Charles squared. Mystery solved. :)

I had a great time with this session. The kids were all so darn cute...how can you NOT love photographing these guys??

ok...call me crazy...I think the feet photos are going to be a regular thing! Love the contrast between the adorable pudgy little baby feet, the pretty painted toes, and the almost adult ones!!!! :)

Red Beds

I had a blast this weekend photographing a very high energy, very fun group of six 14-15 year olds calling themselves the "Red Beds". They are a group of 6 different personalities that are going to different high schools next year, so they decided they wanted to do a session before that happened. They had me cracking up as I was looking through the images trying to determine which ones to post for the blog preview because most of the images are completely goofy! I think these are some of my favorites.

Find your CHI!

I had a great time this weekend photographing a VERY high energy couple. It was the engagement shoot, and we decided to do a little bit in studio and then head to Boulder and Pearl Street. It was hilarious because in studio didn't work so well for these folks - they aren't the posing sort - and he kept telling her to "Find her CHI!!" which was cracking me up! (Sidenote - ok so I had to go and look up what Chi *officially* means and it means "the circulating life energy that in Chinese philosophy is thought to be inherent in all things"). When we got to Boulder things went great! It started to snow so we didn't have too much time trying to get the flatirons in the background, but we headed to NCAR and stood out in the middle of the road, and kept having to watch out for each other for cars coming. I have some hilarious shots of them running off to the side of the road, and of Jill pointing at me warning of oncoming traffic! Here are a few shots from that day. I can't WAIT to shoot the wedding at Dunafon Castle!! (A CASTLE??? IN COLORADO???? :)

We ended the shoot warming up with some coffee at the Paradise cafe on Pearl Street and I couldn't resist taking this cute shot.
While we were at NCAR, we had a visitor. You can BARELY make him out in the photo - he blends into his surroundings so well - so I added the blue arrow. We all thought it was pretty cool!!!

King or Prince?

I did a pregnancy session the other day with another very cute couple. They brought in a few items that are going to be in the baby's room, and we did ended up with some very cute shots that I think will be beautiful for decorating the baby's room with. The baby's middle name is going to be Kingston, so they even brought a little crown. It's so hard to choose an absolute favorite, but I love the one where his back is turned and you can see her belly in the background.

I happened to be downtown this afternoon trying to turn from I-25 onto Alameda, and traffic was backed up forever. When I FINALLY turned the corner, I couldn't BELIEVE what I saw! The SWAT team in all their black gear was out with guns drawn and pointed at this building. I was in traffic so I couldn't pull over. And I thought to myself...yet another "wish i had my camera" moment!!! It's always those times when I figure "Oh, I am just running out for a quick something-or-other..I don't need to take my camera"...and whaddyaknow.

Another one for the lesson books. :)

Now I need to search the net and see what was going on!!

Who said you can't meet your true love on a plane?

What an interesting story these two have. They met on a plane when they sat next to each other for a flight!! How cool is that?? She flew in for a quick weekend and they managed to fit in this engagement session. This was a blast as it took us through Larimer Square, down by the Platte River, and then over by that big bridge near Coors Field before the wind REALLY kicked up and the snow was threatening. It got cold FAST, but not before we got in some GREAT photos. I had a hard time choosing my favorites with this session...there were so many!

I love they way that you can look at someone through a camera lens, and see so many different parts of their personality. This was a very fun session and we got really dramatic with some of these photos.

Shot a Super cute couple the other day. I love shooting couples in love!!

This one I just had to take. I noticed when they walked in how perfect their shoes looked, so while we took a quick break and they were relaxing looking at my portfolio, I setup their shoes and grabbed this shot. I think shoes say alot about one's personality, don't you??

Back from the holidays and straight back to work! Had a great time this weekend shooting 2 week old twins! A boy and a girl, they were so sweet. This first shot had me cracking up, and I was afraid I was laughing too hard, the moment would be gone, and I wouldn't have captured it because of camera shake...but I am happy to say I did get it!.

If photographs of loved ones will help keep the men & women over in Iraq happy, then I am more than happy to help whenever I can. Heather came to me wanting some photos to surprise her boyfriend who is currently stationed over there, and we had a great time taking these. She is such a sweet girl...this was a really fun session.

Imaging USA!! YAY!!!

We are so excited because we will be attending Imaging USA this year. It is the Professional Photographers conference held in Tampa, FL. We have never been to Florida, so that in itself is exciting! The young girl I mentored through the Colorado Youth at Risk program is now a sophmore at University of Tampa, but she will be here with family while I am there so I am bummed! But, we are so excited about 6 days of education and fun with our peers!! Lots of interesting learning with some of the best and brightest in the photography world.

We will be closed from December 24th through January 10th. I will be checking voicemail and email during this time, but we will not have any sessions scheduled during this time.

Hopefully no babies will arrive early or late during this time! I love the "Baby's first day" sessions in the hospital and hope not to miss one!! ;)

Busy Holiday Season

It has been a busy few weeks for us with the holidays coming up. I have not been posting much, but am working hard to get all your orders to you on time! :)

A funny thing happened at a session last week. We were photographing a woman and her dogs at a local park and in trying to get THE perfect shot, I wasn't watching my step and even though I was told over and over not to backup into the water...what did I do?...I backed up into the water. The rest of the session was completed with my foot FREEZING from the cold water, but needless to say, I did get the shot I wanted. I figured at that point...I was wet...I might as well stay and get the photo I wanted. I was just glad I didn't drop the camera!

So with Thanksgiving behind us, I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of my clients, and my wonderful family and friends who have helped make this dream of mine to be a photographer come true. It is a WONDERFUL thing being able to wake up and do what I love everyday!

Where has summer gone?

Wow, it has been awhile since my last post! We have been really busy all summer and one of our big projects was finally completed this past weekend. Wow, what a relief! We are exhausted and exhilerated!! We put up a permanent advertisement at Flatirons Crossing Mall in Broomfield. It is located just outside of Nordstrom next to Mimi Maternity. Check out our work if you get a chance!

Besides spending 4 of the summer weeks out of state, we had a number of photo sessions as well as a couple of Community Events, too. We had a tent up at HarvestFest a couple of weeks ago and were busier than ever! It is such a blast to do so many quick sessions. What was so great was there we kept seeing these children come through with this WONDERFUL facepainting, so when we had a short break I looked around and found the tent - Fantastic Facepainting. She is a wonderful artist and we were able to take some GREAT photos of her work. If you need some facepainting, she is definitely the one to go to!

One of the things that stands out from this past summer is an engagement session we did at Lakeside which was a blast. Meg and Chris were great to work with and it was so wonderful to see the love shared between them. What an honor to capture such moments between two people. That night I went to sleep with a smile on my face with the recognition that this is one of the reasons why we are doing what we are doing. :)

Speaking of reasons why we are doing what we are doing, we did a session weeks ago of a family of 14. There were 3 generations there. As I edited the photos, I was especially happy at how well the photos of the grandparents had turned out - how sweet the interaction we had captured. If you don't know, I have a real soft spot for the older generation. Anyway, I had posted the photos shortly after the session and not heard back, then received a call this Sunday from the family, asking for a rush on some of the photos because the Grandfather had passed away. I was saddened and humbled at both understanding the loss, and being able to capture those moments. It was a reaffirmation as to why photography is so important to me and why I love doing this for other people. Knowing what the photos of my own father mean to me now that he has passed on, and that we were able to provide some photos for another family, that is why we do what we do.

New Look

We are SO excited to announce our new look. We are sure you already saw it, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this! :)

Due to the diversity of our clientele, we wanted an image that smoothly transitions across the various subject matter. The new site has a more streamlined look, is more modern, and we are so excited to be sharing it with you!

Just a reminder that we will be closed next week, and all new orders will be processed after June 25th.

People's Fair 2007

We participated this weekend as official photographers for the People's Fair through our involvement with the Denver Darkroom. (http://www.denverdarkroom.com)

It was a great event with lots of people, lots to eat, and lots of events going on. Steve did take some time out to play some hackeysack, though the day itself was full of various opportunities to take photos.

ThorntonFest 2007

Thanks to everyone who visited us at Thorntonfest 2007. We had a great time with the mini-photo shoots and got some wonderful quick shots. Everything moved so fast, but we did over 100 mini-sessions.

We were in the Animall section of the festival and photographed not only people and pups, but a ferrett and 2 HUGE iguanas! I had to pick up one of the big iguanas so it wouldn't wander off - that was definitely a first for me!
